The shackles that bound me hand and foot were only shadows, but they mingled with my tendons as if they were a part of me. My voice was silenced by the tendrils of the ideas, or rather, the lies that I believed.

I never knew me because I never knew you, but you're true colors foiled your master plans to take over the worlds inside our heads... or at least mine.

But you had to learn this from somewhere, didn't you? The methods of our fathers haunt our hearts while the tactics of our mothers feed on our minds blinding us to the reality that we are, in fact, our own.

You don't need to belong to someone else to have a home, and you don't need to have a home to belong to someone.

We are all just lost in the universe until we realize we are part of it. Like stars surrounded by nothingness, but exactly where they are meant to be.

We are all members of this thing we call humanity. And, sure, losing one individual won't affect the whole much at all, but without individuals, the concept of humanity would vanish as if it never was.

So, why do you try to absorb other's identities? A human being is not a vacuum. Eventually, you're going to explode. No one is meant to handle that kind of pressure; conflicting memories, emotions, beliefs... that sounds like a nightmare.

And why do you let yourself be absorbed by others you perceive to be stronger than yourself? There is strength in numbers, but numbers are only plural when they can be distinguished from one another.

Don't you know that two souls cannot be blended together? You're not becoming one with the community; you're crawling into a cage and locking the door behind you expecting the cold iron to comfort your scorched, rejected soul.

People are like puzzle pieces: they only fit together in the ways they were designed to. When you force puzzle pieces to fit together in ways they were never meant to connect you damage them. The more you force them, the more damaged they become.

So it is with people, and the more you force yourself to fit into connections you were never meant to have or experience, then more damaged you will become; the less you will be able to connect.

beneath
these waves
is a simple life
the answer lies within
each breath - each moment
there is no future to fret over
there is no past to haunt your journey
there is only the step you are currently taking
you exist only in this moment and only for this moment
until the next one takes you from the last place
into the next place you are meant to be
and with that next step forward
this breath - this moment
is the only moment
in which you
were meant
to be
